Model Spaces

I have invented a project that taps into the hopes and creative visions of kids and adults and may eventually hit them where they live: in their dream home.

Using a variety of recycled household materials, I have helped people of all ages create tiny models of places where they would love to live.

We start with an interview and a blue print and then the sky is the limit! I have worked on this project for several years in many locations and will continue to grow it.

These habitats can be anything from a fairly conventional family room and bedroom to entire round houses, underground houses and tree houses, small enough to fold up and fit into a pocket or even disguised in a three-layer cake.

I am not interested in perfection. It's as simple as seeing what happens when you put energy into something, but without expectation.

I think it will be poignant for the participants to look back in years to come to see if what they imagined is in fact what they built in their lives.

For me, the artistic and personal vision of what kind a place we would like to live in is primal, powerful and ultimately revealing.

One challenge which can arise is that sometimes when someone is building their dream model home from recycled materials, a gulf appears that is the space between how you imagined it to be and how it is turning out. That's kind of what art is all about in my opinion - kind of like life - but this part can either be intriguing, challenging, mystifying or hopefully rewarding.
